What are papillomas?

One of the most common dermatological problems are small, fleshy growths called dermal papillomas. Although they are harmless, they can make the patient feel uncomfortable. Papillomas are small, soft skin growths, usually found on the neck, armpits, groin or eyelids, but can appear anywhere.

Unlike pimples or cysts, which cause a raised area of skin, papillomas are attached to the surface of the skin by a thin stalk.

Papillomas, (or “hangs”), although they are small in size, are annoying, because they create an unsightly effect. Papillomas, which are usually skin-colored, or slightly darker, are usually two to five millimeters in size. Sometimes they can get bigger.

What causes papillomas?
